Happy Birthday Deirdre Hope you have a great day July 10th.  Thought you might enjoy checking out where you would go to get fabric for projects and some of the other items of interest that made us think of you.

Love you Much
Mom and Dad in Uganda
This is one of the bigger fabric stores in Jinja.  What you see is pretty much all there is to it.  Lots of animal prints and maps of Uganda for the design.  If you want thread or zippers you go to another store.

Check out the name of this store.  Notice my bag that Deirdre made me before leaving on our  mission.  I carry it everywhere and have had tons of compliments on it.  I especially like it when I go to the market as it holds lots of food plus you have to carry your own toilet paper and wipes so it is my all in one bag.

There are sewing machines all along the street making and remaking clothing items.   Sometimes the sun is in their eyes so they hang up a drape or piece of cardboard to shade them.

We wish we could bring home this giraffe carved by the man in he middle.  We love his shop.   We hope to have him do some objects for us before we come home.

This is a Bernina sewing machine that is not run by electricity.  It has been converted to a treadle machine that she runs with her feet like our Grandma's did maybe 100 years ago.

Our neighbor wanted a living room set so this man moved into our compound corner roofed area with his treadle sewing machine, some wood and stuffing.  He made the couches from scratch right before our eyes.

The Jinja Branch has an experimental garden they hope the members will duplicate.  Many of the plants are growing in burlap bags of dirt.  Not sure where they got that idea.

This is the Jinja Branch Pres. and a couple helpers.  We can see the garden from our office window where we go to meet the PEF students to help them get registered.  There are cabbages, tomatoes, onions, chard, carrots and of course the corn.  Rand found a bunny nibbling on the carrot tops.  He told the Branch Pres. and soon it was gone.  wonder who had rabbit stew for dinner that night?
