Jul 8, 2012

We heard that there were portal baptismal fonts in Uganda for branches that meet in rented facilities.  Some are dumpsters that are painted white but this one is a fiberglass tub with a lid made especially for baptisms.  Here Moses  Okurut, first counselor in the Njeru branch is showing us the font that they just received.
Necessity is the mother of invention
Pres. Mwami and Joen a young adult are cleaning the font of debris by washing leaves out the bottom drain for today's baptism.  July 8, 2012 was their first baptism and they were pretty excited.  Rand and I were there early to meet with the branch PEC
Rand suggested lifting one end to hurry the dirty water out the side drain so that they could begin filling it.  The water ran in for the whole three hour block and was just ready for the baptism that began after church.  About half of the 100 members who attended  today's meetings stayed for the baptism
This young man is being baptized by his father who holds the Priesthood.  Most members in this branch have only been members for less than a year.  So it is unusual to find a second generation member.
There is a stairway up and a stairway down into the font.
Witnesses stand close to make sure the baptism is a complete submersion.  I forgot the name of the white missionary from St. George.  Us whities are few and far between
The Baptism is complete so this young man is in hurry to get to the restroom to change.
I forgot to take a pictures of the rest rooms.  You wouldn't believe what those look like.
The landlord is planning to make a second story above the church facility but doesn't want anyone going up the cement stairs.  He enclosed them in metal sheets then built a bathroom/dressing room behind and under the stairs to use as the baptismal changing rooms.

Your pictures tell such a story! Was the water warm?

Is that a big expense to fill the font with that much water? I love the pictures mom!
