Flew all night from London to Johannesburg.  This was the view from the window the next morning as the sun rose.  Never seen the earth to be so flat.  I wonder how they keep their directions straight?
The missionary couple the Webbs, Norris & Carol were our hosts while in South Africa.  Fri. morning we went with them to the Johannesburg temple.  There were several new missionaries on the session and the two couples of us.  That was interesting how they handled the prayer circle.  Since the temple is right next to the missionary offices the workers there are often on call to help out.  The lady in charge of clothing at the temple was born in 1911 which made her 101.
Timbocusi, the man we came to train under in South Africa.  He is the man hired to run the PEF program.  We pretty much understood each other.  He reviewed with us what we had learned in Salt Lake under the Jarvises.
Packed again ready to head up to Entebbe Uganda.  The airport is about  1.5 hours from Kampala, our final destination today.  We got all our luggage to South Africa for free but when we went to fly to Entebbe they charged us almost $400 for extra weight
I'm pointing at the large avocado on the tree near our  apartment in Kampala that we were temporarily stationed at.  When we cut open the avocado the seed was as big as some of the avocados at home.
Here we spent our first night on our tour with the Jacksons.  Would love to have gone swimming at Chobe but the hippos we'd seen the night before near by made me too nervous
Rand & Julie above the Nile River at Chobe.  Quite a lovely resort on our way to Guru.
Chobe where we dined above the hippos that foraged for food right below where we were eating.  Too bad it was nights we didn't get pictures.  In the morning we watched them come up for air in the Nile River.   They were enjoying the water along with the crocodiles that we were warned about on the sign but never saw.
Can you see the elephant in the center?  This was our first and so far only sighting.  We had just left Chobe on our way to Guru where we went with the Andrus's to see the compound they want to rent to have for the branch.  We watched Pres. Jackson negotiate a lease for the building.  Pretty interesting how he went over every detail many times to make sure the owner understood.
Back of Pres Jackson and Rand as they hurry back into town.   We were quite the oddity,  white people walking really fast with nothing on our head or in our hands
Men going to work early in the morning
In Lira we had a zone conference with the missionaries and the Grundys.  We went on a six mile walk with them and the Jacksons before our meeting.  They were in a hurry and I wanted to stop and take pictures of everything.  It was our first chance to be out where the people are.

The Mountain in the background is Kenya.  We are in a very lovely resort in Mbale.  Pres. Jackson met with the missionaries to have a zone conference.
We drove 10-12 miles into an extremely remote area to find Steven & Sarah Butwale's school.  All of a sudden there it was along a dirt road that probably seldom has cars on it and maybe never with white people  In them.  The "Liahona" school,  wonder where they got that name?  The Butwaleys were one of the first families to join the church In this area.  They go to the Mbale branch by riding a bus and hiring a boda to get them there.  They have a son on a mission but I forgot where in Africa.

Rand sitting at one of the long rows of desks in the school.  Each class room had a black board but lighting was terrible.   It came from an open window.  All of the class rooms were extremely crowded
After leaving the school we drove as far as we could to their home.  Then we had get out and walk the rest of the way.  Rand teased that it was the furtherest we had ever been from civilization.  Sister Jackson is in front with Brother Andrus, Pres Jackson then Rand.
We arrived at the Butwale's home where we meet their two sons.  They showed us their rabbits.   Not sure if they plan to eat them or have them as pets.  I'm guessing the former
Pres. & Sister Jackson presented Sarah & Steven's family with a cake.  Then they invited us for dinner.  Steven brought a pitcher of water and bowl for us each to wash our hands.  They had matoky (fried bananas) and beans.  The beans were deliciously flavored
Across the kitchen table you can see a picture of Christ and the children behind Rand.  To the side of the child is a "love at home" wall hanging.  Bro. Butwale's mother is on the far right, a tiny frail old lady.
Pres. Jackson with Bro. Butwale and Julie.  Their living room/kitchen included some of the same pictures we have on our walls
This is a view of a huge rock from our balcony window.  We stayed the night in Toreno then drove the next day to Busea where Pres. Jackson made a branch out of a group.  I was able to play the key board so they would have music.  I had never played a key board before.  It sounded like an organ so the music was a bit rough but they were pleased.
This is part of the group that went to Busea to establish a branch from a group.  We stopped off here in Jinja because everyone wanted to see our new apartment.  It is on the second floor above the red SUV.  We have three bedrooms, two baths. and a lovely view of the sunsets.  We were on our way back to Kampala.  We didn't move into the apartment till the next Wed.
